Rock climbing fund raiser for Amy Bechtel
by the Tom Edwards

CASPER – At the Peak, indoor climbing gym Saturday, more than 700 dollars was raised towards Amy Bechtel’s recovery fund.

They came from Lander, Cody, Laramie, Casper and a few other towns Saturday. Testing their skills at this rock climbing competition, to keep Amy Bechtel’s name out in the public, with a reminder that she’s still missing from that early morning run, west of Lander July 24th.

Even world class climber Paul Piana helped out. He’s a friend of Amy and Steve Bechtel. He says Saturday’s fundraiser was uplifting for anyone still clinging to hope that Amy will be found.

Money raised from the peak is primarily used in keeping Bechtel’s name and picture out in the public. Her poster is found in almost every city and town in Wyoming, but there’s still a lot of space outside the state.

Amy Bechtel is known for her running abilities, but on occasion she was found rock climbing.

So Saturday’s event, was just another way for the community to say we’re not giving up.

Another fundraiser will be held Sunday for the Bechtel recovery fund. It’s a 10-K race from Bruce’s Bridge to Frye Lake near Sinks Canyon.

If you’d like to run or walk in this race, it begins at 9:00 Sunday morning at Bruce’s Bridge west of Lander.

It was a race planned by Amy Bechtel herself, several months ago.
