Two fundraisers are being planned for later this month

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Two fundraisers are being planned for later this month to help raise money to continue the search for a Lander woman who has been missing since July 24.

Steve Bechtel, the husband of Amy Wroe Bechtel, 25, is planning a 10-kilometer race for Sept. 28 that will cover part of the course she was reportedly scouting when she disappeared in the Loop Road area of the Shoshone National Forest.

"In a way, it serves as a metaphor for the whole search because it's a really hard race and there are people in it who wouldn't normally be involved with this sort of thing," Bechtel said. "We're doing the race out of honor for Amy, plus it keeps awareness up that she is still missing."

Bechtel said he expected up to 400 people to pay the $12 entry fee for the race.

In addition, a rock climbing contest was scheduled Sept. 27 at the Peak Indoor Rock Climbing Gym in Casper to benefit the search. Registration is $15 for climbers 14 years old and older, and spectators will have to pay $2. All proceeds go to the search fund, sponsors said.

The Bechtel family has set up a toll-free number for any information to help the search. The number is 1-800-867-5269.
